Detailed Solution

Stupas are an example of Buddhist art.
A stupa is a hemispherical or mound-like construction used for meditation that houses relics (such as areas which are often the remains of Buddhist monks or nuns). A chaitya, a temple or prayer hall with a stupa, is a similar architectural word. Since the beginning of Buddhism, circumambulation, or pradakhshina, has been a significant ritual and devotional practice. A pradakhshina path constantly surrounds stupas. In India, memorial monuments in the form of Buddhist stupas, which are dome-shaped structures used to house priceless Buddha relics, first appeared. Eight stupas in Rajagriha, Vaishali, Kapilavastu, Allakappa, Ramagrama, Pava, and Kushinagar house the Buddha's remains.
