Lord Wellesley planned and established the subsidiary alliance, and the forces provided by the subsidiary alliance were referred to as subsidiary forces. The power provided by Britishers to the state's royalty to empower their army and assist them in achieving victory in battle with their neighbouring country; instead, the royalty of that particular state provides the maintenance of the British army; and if the king of that state does not pay the maintenance, the EIC annexes some part of that state.
