Q.

Substance AzB(g) can undergo decomposition to form two set of products :

AzB(g)A2(g)+B(g); ΔH=40 kJ/mole

AzB(g)A(g)+AB(g); ΔH=50 kJ/mole

If the molar ratio of A2(g) to A(g) is 5 : 3 in a set of product gases, then the energy involved in the decomposition of 1 mole of A2B is:

Detailed Solution

Molar Ratio of A

2

 : A = 5:3

For formatiation of 5 moles of A, the involved energy,

 = 40 × 5 = 200 kJ

Similarly in formation of 3 moles of A energy required,

= 50×3=150kJ

Energy for decomposition of A2B

= 200 + 150 = 350 KJ

Energy per mole

3505+3=43.75 KJ/ mole
