Sulh-i-Kul refers to universal peace. As per Akbar, the idea of tolerance did not discriminate between people of a different religion living in his realm. Sulh-i-Kul refers to the system of ethics like honesty, justice, and peace which are universally applicable. Based on the idea of Sulh-i-Kul, Abdul Fazl helped Akbar in framing a vision of governance. Jahangir and Shah Jahan both followed this principle of governance based on Sul-i-Kul. According to Jahangir's understanding of Sulh-i-Kul, there is scope for all religions, classes, and creeds. The road leading to intolerance was closed. Shias and Sunnis met in one mosque and Christians and Jews in one church.
