Sultan Iltutmish constructed a large reservoir named Hauz-i-Sultani.
As new dynasties came to power, it became imperative for rulers to prove their worth and close connection with God. Hence, constructing tanks for the availability of fresh and precious water at all times to his subjects became necessary for the ruler's moral responsibility. Moreover, Sultan Iltutmish, in the early stages of the ruling, built Hauz-i-Sultani outside Dehli-i-Kuhna, which earned him universal respect.
