Let the amount invested in scheme X is

It is given that, the interest rate of scheme C is 8% and the interest rate of scheme Y is 9%.
Therefore, according to the question,

8100 y + 9100 y = 1860 ⇒ 8 x + 9 y = 186000 … . (1)

and 9100 x + 8100 y = 1860 + 20 ⇒ 9 x + 8 y = 188000 … . (2)

Adding equations (1) and (2), we get,

⇒ 17 (x + y) = 374000 ⇒ x + y = 22000 ⇒ y = 22000 − x .... (3)

Now put this y in equation (1), and we get,

8 x + 9 (22000 − x) = 186000 ⇒ − x + 198000 = 186000

⇒ x = 12000 ∴ y = 22000 − 12000 ⇒ y = 10000

Thus, Suman needs to invest ₹12000 in scheme A and ₹10000 in scheme B.
Therefore, the total amount of money she put into both schemes is ₹ 22000.
Hence option (2) is correct.
