Detailed Solution

Swidden agriculture is also known as Shifting cultivation. It was a traditional agricultural practice in several parts of Asia, South America, and Africa. As a result, it had many local names such as milpa in Central America, lading in Southeast Asia, and chitemene or tavy in Africa. However, European foresters claimed that shifting cultivation was a harmful practice that could destroy land used for cultivation and make it unfit for producing trees for railway timber.
