Detailed Solution

Tamil Nadu is home to Kalpakkam nuclear power plant. Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS), a complete nuclear power generation, fuel reprocessing, and waste management facility in Kalpakkam, India, is about 80 km south of Chennai. MAPS-1 and MAPS-2, two locally built pressure heavy water reactors (PHWRs) with a combined design capacity of 235 MW, are housed at the complex. Although MAPS-1 was finished in 1981, the start-up was put off because there wasn't enough heavy water.
