Tarabai Shinde, a woman, educated at home at Poona, published a book Stripurushatulna. The nineteenth century ended with women taking an active role in reform activities. They established women's associations, founded schools and training facilities, edited periodicals, produced books, and more. Indian women began enrolling in universities in the 1880s. Some of them pursued medical school; others chose to pursue careers as teachers. In response to the state of women in society, many women started writing and publishing their critical opinions. The woman who received her education at home in Poona was Tarabai Shinde. She wrote Stripurushtulna, which criticised the social distinctions between men and women.
