It is given that a person travels 110 km, he pays Rs.690 and for travelling 200 km, he pays Rs.1050.
Let, fixed charge be Rs.

and the rate per kilometer = Rs.

x + 110 y = 690 ... 1

x + 200 y = 1050 ... 2

Now from equation (1)

x = 690 - 110 y

… (3)
Substitute the value of

x = 690 - 110 y

in equation (2)

x + 200 y = 1050 690 − 110 y + 200 y = 1050 690 + 90 y = 1050 90 y = 1050 − 690 90 y = 360 y = 36090 y = 40

Putting the value of y = 40 in equation (3) to find the value of x:

x = 690 − 110 y x = 690 − 11040 x = 690 − 440 x = 250

Therefore, the fixed charges are Rs. 250 and the rate per kilometer are Rs.40.
Hence, option (1) is correct.
