Detailed Solution

Temples in Bengal were generally built on square platforms. Beginning in the late fourteenth century and peaking in the nineteenth century, Bengal had a temple-building frenzy. Local deities that had previously been worshipped in thatched huts in the villages were recognised by the Brahmanas, and their statues thereafter began to be maintained in temples. The double-roofed or four-roofed architecture of the thatched huts became a model for the temples. In the considerably more complex four-roofed structure, four triangular roofs installed on the walls rise to converge on a curve or a point. Temples were often built on square platforms. While the interiors of many temples were frequently plain, the exteriors of many of them were decorated with murals, ornamental tiles, or clay tablets.
