Detailed Solution

Temples were not only places of worship; they were the hub of economic, social, and cultural life.
Chola temples frequently served as the centre of the towns that developed nearby. These served as centres for the production of crafts. Rulers gave land to temples in addition to other people. Priests, garland makers, cooks, sweepers, musicians, dancers, and other specialists who worked at the temple and frequently lived nearby were supported by the produce from this land. In other words, temples were not only places of worship but also social, cultural, and gatherings. The most distinctive of the temple-related crafts was the creation of bronze statues. Some of the best bronze sculptures ever created are thought to be by the Cholas. Although occasionally devotee images were made, most images were of gods.
