Terrace cultivation prevents soil erosion. When terraces break bigger slopes into smaller ones, the slopes become less steep, which decreases water flow as the force of water due to gravitation becomes less destructive. Terrace cultivation or Terracing is an agricultural practice in which farms are rearranged, or hills are turned into farmlands by forming ridges. These ridges are termed terraces and hence the name. It helps in moving topsoil to farmed areas, due to which water drips down to the lower layers when the upper layer is full.
