Detailed Solution

Thanjavur was the capital of the Cholas. In those times, the temple town bustled with trade, and markets were busy selling grain, cloth, spices, and jewellery. The Rajarajeshvara temple constructed by King Rajaraja Chola in Thanjavur attracted hordes of pilgrims regularly. The architect Kunjaramallan Rajaraja Perunthachchan whose name is carved on the temple wall, enjoyed praise for his work from all pilgrims. Kings held court and issued orders to their subordinates in mandapas adjacent to the temple. Barracks surrounded the palaces for the army. The Saliya weavers of Thanjavur were renowned for their production of cloth for flags used in the temple festival, coarse cotton for people, and fine cotton for the nobility and king. The sculptors at Swamimalai were famous for their creation of exquisite bronze idols and ornamental bell metal lamps.
