Detailed Solution

The Church extracted its share of taxes called Tithes from the peasants.
Before the French Revolution, the Church imposed taxes on the peasants. Gradually, Tithe was imposed on all the people who were part of the Third Estate, which comprised almost 98% of France's population. It was usually 10% of the annual produce or earnings of the people. This tax was extracted to support the religious establishment, that is, the Church. Therefore, it was considered a voluntary contribution or an offering for a spiritual purpose.
