Detailed Solution

The Habsburg rulers granted more autonomy to the Hungarians in 1867.
In 1848, a revolution led by the educated middle classes took place with uprisings by peasants and workers in numerous European countries. In the Austro-Hungarian Empire, liberal middle-class men and women united for constitutionalism and a national union. The monarchs realised that only by making concessions to liberal-nationalist revolutionaries could the revolutions be stopped. As a result, serfdom and bonded labour were outlawed in Russia and the Habsburg dominions. In 1867, the Habsburg rulers granted the Hungarians greater autonomy.
