Detailed Solution

The British Government imposed tariffs on the import of cotton clothes into India.
To make Britain flourish, its trade expanded, and the British Government destroyed the textile industry of India. The Textile Industry, flourishing in carving its space before the arrival of the British, faced a setback once the British Government took control. The British Government imposed high tariffs on importing cotton clothes to India. This impact resulted in the decreasing share of Indians in International cotton textiles export from 30% in 1800 to 3% in 1870. With this high tariff, it became tough for India to compete in world markets with such high tariffs. Moreover, many new industrial products were also coming to the market, which was very hard for the Indian market to compete with.
