The Poverty Line is a common method to determine poverty in a country.
A country calculates the minimum income and consumption required to fulfil house, clothing, and food needs. This minimum level is different for different countries as there are different levels of Development and societal norms. For example, a person with a car may be poor in Western countries, but it is a sign of luxury in India. Thus, the Poverty Line is an imaginary line that varies with time and place. In India, a Poverty Line is estimated normally every five years by conducting sample surveys.
