The Akbar Nama mentions that Garha Katanga had 70,000 villages.
A narrative of Akbar's reign called the Akbarnama makes reference to the 70,000-village Gond kingdom of Garha Katanga. A wealthy state was Garha Katanga. The capture and transportation of wild elephants to other kingdoms brought it great fortune. After defeating the Gonds, the Mughals took possession of an enormous haul of priceless coins and elephants. Even after Garha Katanga fell, the Gond kingdoms continued to exist. However, they drastically lost strength and later fought the more powerful Bundelas and Marathas in vain.
