The Samin movement was a significant uprising of the Java people against the Dutch colonisers.
It was a prominent movement led by Surontiko Samin. Samin belonged to the teak forest village of Randublatung. He argued that the state did not create natural elements like the wind, water, earth, and wood; hence, the state could not possess them. Quickly, a vast movement grew. Some of those who helped organise the campaign included Samin's sons-in-law. By 1907, 3,000 households had embraced his beliefs. Some feminists protested by lying down on their land when the Dutch came to survey it, while others resisted paying taxes, fines, or performing labour.
