Detailed Solution

The Tennis Court Oath was a commitment to draft a constitution, taken on 20th June 1789 in France.
On 20th June 1789, Third Estate representatives found the meeting hall of the Estates General at Versailles locked, which was interpreted by them as hostile efforts of the king to prevent them from meeting and forcing them to disband. So they moved on to a nearby indoor tennis court and took an oath which came to be known as the Tennis Court Oath. It was a commitment by the National Assembly to not disperse until they drafted a constitution for the country which would limit the arbitrary excesses of the French monarch; they were successful at drafting one after two years, in 1791. This Tennis Court Oath was immortalised in a famous painting by Jacques-Louis David and became one of the most iconic scenes of the French Revolution.
