Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are home to the Kurumas and Kurubas, who raise sheep and goats. They reside among the forests and migrate to coastal areas during dry years. Rajasthan's Raikas practised both agriculture and pastoralism. When their grazing sites get too dry, they go to greener pastures. During the monsoon, the Dhangars live in Maharashtra's Central Plateau. This area is semi-arid. They start moving towards Konkan in October. Their animals assist in fertilising the crops here, so the Konkani villagers welcome them.
