Detailed Solution

The Corn laws restricted the import of corn in Britain in the 19th century. The need for food grains in Britain had expanded due to population expansion beginning in the late eighteenth century. The demand for agricultural products increased as urban areas and industry flourished, driving up the price of food grains. Additionally, the government limited the import of corn in response to demand from landed groups. The "Corn Laws" were the name of the laws that permitted the government to act this way. Industrialists and city residents forced the removal of the Corn Laws because they were unhappy with the high cost of food. Finally, the government repealed the law, and food could be brought into Britain for less money than it could be produced there.
