Detailed Solution

The Salt Satyagraha in Dandi marked the beginning of the Civil Disobedience Movement.
In 1930, Gandhiji made 11 demands to Viceroy Irwin and mentioned that if Irwin did not accept these demands, then Gandhi would launch the Civil Disobedience movement. As the British were unwilling to negotiate, Gandhiji started the Salt Satyagraha from Sabarmati to Dandi on 12 March 1930. This march broke the salt law and marked the beginning of the Civil Disobedience Movement. Gandhi thought that if he launched a campaign on the national level to abolish the salt law, it could unite the nation as salt was something essential consumed by rich and poor alike. Moreover, the salt tax revealed the oppressive face of British rule.
