The Kushans were amongst the earliest rulers to issue gold coins.
The best-known rulers controlling the Silk Route were the Kushans, who ruled over central Asia and northwest India around 2000 years ago. During their rule, a branch of the silk route extended from central Asia down to the seaports, from where the silk was shipped westwards to the Roman Empire. Hence, trading was the main source of income and employment during the Kushana's rule. In addition, the Kushanas were amongst the earliest rulers of the subcontinent to issue gold coins. The traders used gold coins along the Silk Route.
