Machine guns, tanks, aircraft, chemical weapons, etc., were used in the war of the European powers, i.e., the Allies and the Central Powers. These were considered modern, large-scale industries. Millions of soldiers were hired from around the globe and moved to the frontlines on large ships and trains. The First World War made agricultural economies suffer. Post-World War I, Eastern Europe was a major supplier of wheat in the world market, but wheat production in Eastern Europe revived and created a glut in the wheat output when the wheat supply from Eastern Europe was disrupted during the war. Grain prices declined, which caused a fall in rural income, and farmers fell deeper into debt.
