The Swarnajayanti gram swarozgar yojana was launched to cover all aspects of self-employment.
The Ministry of Rural Development launched it to assist poor families below the poverty line in rural areas in taking up self-employment. It aims at bringing poor families above the poverty line. They provide income-generating assets through a mix of bank credit and subsidy.
Organisations such as Self-Help Groups are established to give people training, credit, and technology. It was launched on 1st April 1999. It is mainly launched for the rural poor as the name includes the gram, which means village. The banks fund the self-help groups created by families below the poverty line or BPL under this scheme. It was an integrated scheme for rural employment as well as credit. The training programs are also organised for the youth of the people.
