The Equal Wages Act had passed in 1976 in India. The Equal Wages Act provides equal pay to both female and male workers for the equivalent value of work. The Act holds that there should be no discrimination against female workers in cases of payments, promotions, etc. However, in various areas of work, both in rural and urban areas, men are paid more than women for the same work. Gender division in a patriarchal society leads to discrimination against and exploitation of women.
