An assembly of selected representatives meets as the constituent assembly to establish a constitution. There were 299 people in the Indian Constituent Assembly. In July 1946, elections were held to choose the members of the Constituent Assembly. Additionally, it held its inaugural meeting in December 1946. The Constituent Assembly was split in half along with the nation when it was divided in August 1947 as Constituent Assembly of India and of Pakistan.The Constitution was approved by the Assembly on November 26, 1949, but it didn't go into force until January 26, 1950.
