The state governments must share some powers and revenue with the local government bodies. To tackle this problem, a constitutional arrangement to decentralise power was made in 1992. Decentralisation means the creation of local bodies, and certain powers are devolved to them. Panchayats have been created for rural areas as well as municipalities for urban areas. Due to this decentralisation, the state governments must share some powers and revenue with the local government bodies.
