A female silk moth lays 300-400 eggs at a time. These eggs hatch, and silkworms emerge. They eat mulberry leaves until they reach a certain size and stop eating. They then secrete protein filaments, known as cocoons, around themselves. After that, they enter the pupa stage of their lives inside cocoons. The cocoon is then immersed in boiling water or exposed to sunlight to produce silk fibres.
