Detailed Solution

The Speaker of the House of People (the Lok Sabha) is the constitutional and ceremonial head of the house, which is why they preside over the meetings of the Lok Sabha. He supervises the day-to-day functioning of the house and holds supreme authority there. Usually, a member of the ruling party is elected as a Speaker. As a general trend, the process has evolved over a period of time, where the ruling party nominates its candidate after consulting with the leaders of other parties and groups in the house. The tenure of the Speaker is for five years. The Speaker must maintain the discipline and decorum of the house. If the Speaker finds that the behaviour of a member of Parliament is not good, they can punish such members by suspending them.
