Detailed Solution

The World Bank pressured the Bolivian government to give up its control over the water supply.
Water is an essential element for the survival of an individual. A country must ensure that this basic need of its citizens is availed to them at a minimal cost. This was followed by the Bolivian government as well. The water department in Bolivia controlled the municipal water supply. After the World Bank pressurised the Bolivian government to privatise its water services, the water supply contract in Cochabamba city went to an MNC. This governmental decision was unpopular among the people, and a Bolivian water war occurred in 2000. This water war finally ended with the government taking back the contract from the MNC.
