Detailed Solution

The World Bank pressurised the government to give up its water control in Bolivia. A multinational corporation (MNC) acquired these rights for the city of Cochabamba from the government. The corporation immediately increased the price of water by four times. Many people in the country where the monthly average income was around Rs 5000 received Rs 1000 water bills. This led to an unanticipated public protest. The struggles and protests of the people had the MNC officials forced to leave the city, and the government was compelled to comply with all of the demonstrator's requests. The municipality's water service was returned at the prior rates once the MNC contract ended.
