Despite being a small country, the population of Belgium is quite diverse. The country is mainly dominated by two linguistic groups: French speakers and Dutch speakers. French speakers comprise about 40 per cent of the total population and are heavily concentrated in the Wallonia region. Dutch speakers are the majority community constituting about 59 per cent of the total population. Most of them reside in the Flemish region. A very small percentage of the population also speaks German. However, the situation is unique in the capital city, Brussels.
