Detailed Solution

The apartheid system was oppressive to the 'blacks' in South Africa. It is a system of racial discrimination in which individuals are separated according to the colour of their skin. It was imposed in South Africa by the colonial white European tyrants who persisted in settling there. The native Africans were referred to as "Blacks" because of their dark skin colour. The term "Whites" was used to describe Europeans and some other white African residents. Indian immigrants to the country and other people of mixed racial backgrounds were referred to as "coloureds." The 'black' and 'coloured' people were not granted voting rights, nor were they allowed to mingle with the 'whites'. The non-white South Africans faced this discrimination at basic levels of life under the White Minority Rule.
