Detailed Solution

The Hindu Succession Amendment Act was passed in 2005. Sons, daughters, and their mothers are all entitled to an equal portion of the family's assets under this new law. This law was passed to repeal the Hindu Succession Act of 1956's gender-discriminatory clauses. According to the amendment, a daughter of a coparcener shall, like a boy, by birth become a coparcener in her own right. The amendment took effect on September 9, 2005, but there is a clause that states that partitions or testamentary dispositions made before December 20, 2004, when the amendment Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha, will remain lawful and unchanged.
