Detailed Solution

The Ilbert Bill stipulated that Indian judges could try Europeans.
Viceroy Ripon's administration saw the introduction of the Ilbert Bill in 1883. The statute provided that Indian judges could try Europeans. In 1873, Indian magistrates were prohibited from trying British subjects. This scenario changed in 1883 with the introduction of the Ilbert Bill. The Bill's provisions specified that from now on, Indian judges who were senior enough would try British and European subjects in session courts. The European community hated this Bill and protested against it.
