Detailed Solution

The 2006 movement in Nepal was aimed at restoring democracy. In April 2006, Nepal experienced an extraordinary populist movement. King Gyanendra of Nepal was opposed to democracy. He dissolved the democratically elected Parliament and fired the then Prime Minister in 2005. He preferred absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. This led to outrage among the people. All major political parties went on strike, and despite the curfew, individuals came out on the streets to protest. Finally, the king had to accept the people's demands, and a constitutional monarchy was established.
