Detailed Solution

The 2008 People’s Movement in Nepal restored democracy by putting an end to the powers of King Gyanendra.
Struggles have marked the political history of Nepal for democracy. In 1990, such a people’s movement successfully established democracy in Nepal. However, in 2005, King Gyanendra gradually took down the democratic powers and established a monarchy with the help of the army. This led to the Maoists associating with other political parties by signing a 12-point agreement. The people’s movement, which thus began in November 2006, held its ground in demanding democracy and peace. They refused to comply with the slight concessions made by the King. In April 2006, the Parliament was restored. In 2008, Nepal became a democracy from a monarchy. The Constitution was written per the people’s vision of a democratic society.
