Detailed Solution

The Act that gave enormous powers to the British government to repress political activities was the Rowlatt Act.
The British government passed the Rowlatt Act to increase its power over the common people. The law was passed in March 1919 by the Imperial Legislative Council, which empowered the colonial government to arrest anyone without trial. It gave the government greater power to curb the political activities of Indian leaders. Gandhi organised a Rowlatt Satyagraha to oppose the Act.
