The amount of electricity that can be generated from Biomass is far low in comparison to hydroelectric plants.
Hydroelectric power plants: Hydroelectric power plants work based on the gravity of the earth. Hydropower plants arrest the energy of falling water to generate electricity. Here the kinetic energy of falling water is converted into mechanical energy by a turbine. Then the mechanical energy from the turbine is converted into electrical energy by a generator.
Biomass: The term biomass is used to refer the organic matter. The waste and dead parts of plants, trees and animals made as fuel to produce energy are called Biomass. It's the organic matter that is converted into fuel and used as an energy source. Wood, sewage and cow dung are the three best examples of Biomass.
Hydropower is the most resourceful way to generate electricity. Modern hydro turbines can convert as much as 90% of the existing energy into electricity. But presently, Biomass covers approximately 10 per cent of the global energy supply because the amount of electricity that can be generated from Biomass is far low in comparison to hydroelectric plants.
