Detailed Solution

The apartheid system was oppressive to the blacks.
The system of apartheid refers to discrimination based on the colour of people's skin. The apartheid system was adopted by the white Europeans in South Africa, who created divisions in the society among blacks, coloured, and Indians. But the structure was particularly oppressive for the blacks as it formed segregation of the general facilities. The blacks were not allowed to live in white colonies. Even if they wanted to work in a white household, they required a permit. There were separate hospitals, libraries, railway compartments, restaurants, public toilets, etc., for the blacks and the whites. They had also barred from entering churches while whites were praying.
