The arrangement in part (b) is the correct arrangement.
We know that when two magnets are placed close to each other, unlike poles of the magnet attract each other and like poles of the magnet repel each other. In order to store two magnets, a wooden block should be kept between two magnets as wood is a non–magnetic material, and the opposite poles should be kept adjacent to each other. Metal plates are used at the top and bottom to keep the magnets in position.
