The art of printing was first developed in China, Korea and Japan. From these three places, it expanded to Europe and India. Buddhist missionaries introduced the art of hand-printing. When  Marco Polo returned to Italy from China in 1295, he took the knowledge of producing books with woodblocks to Europe. Johann Gutenberg developed the first known printing press in the 1430s. Between1450 and 1550, most of the countries in Europe witnessed the set up of the printing press.
