The Austrian Chancellor, Duke Metternich, hosted the Congress of Vienna.
After the defeat of Napoleon by the united forces of Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Britain in 1815, an immediate meeting was held at the Congress of Vienna to discuss the consequences and draw a settlement upon Europe. Under Duke Metternich, they all prioritised undoing the changes brought by Napoleon in Europe, especially by annexing territories into France. In addition, they all wanted to restore the conservatism of pre-Napoleonic times, which meant restoring the monarchies overthrown by Napoleon.
