It is given that, A obtains 30 marks and the average marks of A, B, C is 33.
The value of the mean of a given data set is the average of a given set of numbers.
So,
A+B+C 3 =33 ⇒ 30+B+C 3 =33 ⇒30+B+C=99 ⇒B+C=69  
Similarly, the average marks of B, C, D is 37.
Therefore,
B+C+D 3 =37 ⇒ 69+D 3 =37 ⇒D=111−69 ⇒D=42  
Thus, the marks obtained by D is 42.
Therefore, option (3) is correct.
