The band diagrams of three semiconductors are given in the figure. From left to right they are respectively.

In the diagrams C, V & E_f represents the conduction band, the valence band, and the Fermi level.

For n - type semiconductor, the Fermi level is near the conduction band.

For p - type semiconductor, the Fermi level is near the valence band.

For intrinsic semiconductor, the Fermi level lies in the middle.
