Detailed Solution

The basic philosophy of the conservative was to preserve traditional institutions like the Church, monarchy, etc. European governments were motivated by a conservatism-based ideology after Napoleon was defeated in 1815. Conservatives held that established, conventional institutions of the state and society, such as the monarchy, the Church, social hierarchies, property, and the family, should be protected. However, most conservatives did not advocate restoring the society that existed before the revolution. Instead, they understood from the reforms brought forth by Napoleon that modernization might enhance established institutions like the monarchy and increase the effectiveness of state power. The autocratic monarchy of Europe could be strengthened by a modern army, effective administration, a thriving economy, and the end of serfdom and feudalism.
