Detailed Solution

The big temples of Thanjavur and Gangaikonda Cholapuram were built by Rajaraja and Rajendra. Chola temples frequently served as the hub of the communities that grew up around them. These were hubs for the manufacture of crafts. As well as other people, rulers also gave land to temples. The produce from this land was used to support all the specialists, including priests, garland makers, cooks, sweepers, musicians, dancers, etc., who worked at the temple and frequently resided nearby. In other words, temples served as the centre of social, cultural, and religious life and as places of worship.
